Everyone is in a different situation when money is involved. What the last two years have shown, is that nothing is secure. It’s important to strike a balance between saving and spending your money. In 2020, Millions of people lost their jobs or were depending on state/government funding due to losing their jobs due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Some people say that COVID was a wake-up call for something worse to happen over for people to take more control over their lives. Finding an extra stream of income is a responsible thing to do.

Job security in a 9-5 job depends on several factors, including the stability of the company, the employee’s skill set, and the current economic situation and industry trends. Different ways to make money online

There are so many opportunities for people who want to work and make money online. Many industries are transitioning into online work as I’m writing this.  Side work will keep popping up and it’s important to grab this opportunity by the horns and keep an eye open on what is happening in this online space.

#1. Freelancing Online

Office life is undergoing a transformation. Businesses are extending their workforces by hiring record numbers of freelancers. Freelancers are working remotely from home, abroad, and in Coffee shops.

Cloud-based platforms are making it easier for companies to find the people they need from a global talent pool. Build your online reputation and find clients with the following sites:

Upwork

Upwork offers a great marketplace for selling just about any professional service. All you need to do is be able to provide a high-quality service for a price you feel your skills are worth.

With Upwork, you can find clients or they can find you. The businesses that hire freelancers range from massive incorporations to small startups. There is truly something for everyone.

Due to the nature of business on Upwork, you will more than likely be competing with other freelancers. If you specialise in a certain niche and become the best, you will succeed in winning more contracts. Showcasing your skills in a strong portfolio and profile is also very important.

Fiverr

Fiverr takes its name from the $5 asking price attached to all the tasks. Fortunately, this is no longer the case, sellers can charge much more. This 35-year-old dad made $1.5 million off a simple Fiverr side hustle.

PeoplePerHour

PPH is an online community of freelance talent that help companies/individual people outsource specific projects to remote workers when needed. It’s very similar to Upwork, however, the clients always seem to have a more startup mindset.

Google Maps

I believe that the best way to find new clients is by being proactive and making connections. Once you find a company you like in Google Maps, give them a phone call, email or drop by for a visit and sell your services. If you are a web designer and notice their business website needs an update, discussing this may get you a new client. Google is the best resource to use when searching for local businesses.

#2. Trading Domains/Websites

There is money to be made in buying/trading domains and websites. If your website makes $1,000 per month you should expect a valuation of around $30,000 (30x the monthly revenue.)

You can buy webspace and hosting packaging with HostGator, it’s what I use on this site. Once you have a website bringing in lots of traffic and you have valuable content, Flippa Is just one platform that sells websites.

More than half a billion products are sold on Amazon every month, making it an incredible opportunity to make money.

Etsy

Etsy is the most popular online marketplace for handmade goods and crafts. You can also sell digital products such as poster designs and photography. This is great if you don’t have a budget set aside to buy physical products first.

Ebay

Everybody has heard of eBay, It’s the largest online auction site. Do you wear all the clothes in your wardrobe? Rather than throwing them out why not auction them! Here’s an article I wrote on selling clothes from home.

Shopify

Shopify will hand over the keys to you, for your new online store. They can help set everything up, including a custom domain, beautiful templates, secure payment options and even marketing and shipping if required. Whether you’re promoting your own products, designs, or curating other products for people in your niche, Shopify is the best option for powering your online store.

#5. Drive for a living

If you’re in a location where you can find Uber, or another one of the many competitors around the world such as Singapore’s Grab, the hours are flexible and you can work on your own schedule. If you currently have full-time employment but are looking to make some money as a driver in your spare time this could be for you.

#13. Buy and Sell Lego

People think that Lego should just be opened and played with, which is true. But it’s also true that if you keep your Lego in new condition, still in the factory-sealed packaging, the value will only go up.

As pieces of Lego retire the demand usually increases each year, which raises the selling price. Typically, Lego in the original factory-sealed box increases 10% each year after retirement. Investing in Legos isn’t a bad idea!

So, what’s holding you back? There has never been a better time to make some extra money!
